Illuminating Work for National Drugs Week

We've been working with the lovely Henry on some giant digital projections for Safer Bristol.  They feature warnings about the alarming side-effects of Ketamine. His work will literally be up in lights marking the finale of the Tackling Drugs Week.  His ketamine horse will be beamed onto the Council House in Bristol's College Green to ensure all pub-goers and clubbers 'Know the Risks'.  You heard it from the horse's mouth.

WÖNKY make it onto the BBC Roster


We were as chuffed as nuts to make it onto the BBC's roster.  YAY!  Hopefully this will mean more work like our Peculiar Patents pilot.  


Daring to be Digital with NESTA


Thanks to NESTA's 'Dare to be Digital' programme we're now working with two talented graduates in game (one a BAFTA-nominated 'One to Watch').  We have also been joined by James Manning, a Senior Lecturer in games and animation from University of Wales, Newport as part of a secondment.  The team are currently developing an innovative new GPS-based mobile game.  


WÖNKY at the Cheltenham Science Festival


Being a bit of a 'young technology entrepreneur', Vicky has been invited to join Science Minister Paul Drayson on the panel of the Impact!Debate as part of the opening of the Cheltenham Science Festival.  This year the debate will look at how science can build a better future. 


Contentertainment visits Rushes Soho Shorts 


It's been almost four years since WÖNKY started organising and chairing Contentertainment, the digital strand at the Encounters International Film Festival.  Due to its ever-growing popularity it is now also on tour.  Next stop Rushes Soho Shorts on the 29th July.  


Art Installation at Picture This


If you would like to see giant versions of Miki's fingerprints in plasticine go and see 'As it presents itself - Somewhere vague'.  This stop-motion animation, accompanies by the voice of Richard Briers, is part of an installation produced for the artist Ryan Gander.  It's being exhibited at Picture This until the 6th June.  


WÖNKY recognised for their Innovation in Animation at FMX


  

WÖNKY were shortlisted in the Imagine and fmx/09 competition “Innovation in Animation”.  Our GPS-based experience 'Fate of the Fourth Dimension' was chosen as a film that 'explores animation as an art form, pushing the boundaries on excepted conventions, no matter if it’s an experimental technique or an unconventional subject'. It was screened each day at fmx/09 and featured in the Imagine Vodcast.


WÖNKY competing at MIPTV's Content 360


WÖNKY are delighted to be one of the few finalists selected from 390 projects across 38 countries to pitch as MIPTV's global 'Content 360' commissioning competition.  This cross-media ideas competition is sponsored by the BBC, KCC, MSN, National Film Board of Canada, GCC Joint Program Production Fund, Ogilvy and Unliver.

Our mission is to persuade the National Film Board of Canada to save the world by offering us their development fund for our interactive documentary on Climate Change.  (Well it is being held on April 1st!) 


A Spanish Adventure for T-Bot


  

WÖNKY have been invited by UK Trade & Investment Bilbao to present our work at Animabasque, a one day Animation seminar held during the Animabasauri Festival.  We've been selected to pitch our Movies on the Move pilot 'The Adventures of T-Bot' to the Spanish animation market at the prestigious Euskalduna Congress Hall in Bilbao.

But you don't have to go to Spain to see the trailer!

We discuss the making of 'Suburban Myths' in December's Brief Encounters article and get a couple of the episodes featured in the cover CD.  Christmas has come early!

WÖNKY were invited by Computer Arts to feature in the Round Table discussion.  'Start your own studio' was the theme of Issue 150 of the magazine.  As a "very distinct and successful" studio, we were asked to discuss what it takes to set up a studio and the challenges of going it alone.

 Encounters International Film Festival


  

Vicky will be part of a panel discussion which highlights the importance of new cross platform initiatives in providing greater opportunities for the commissioning and distribution of animation. The discussion looks specifically at Channel 4's new online animation channel 4Mations.tv and also at other developments in traditional broadcasters' commissioning routes via the web.

 Whitstable Biennale


 

This summer we worked with Ryan Gander on a claymation animation projected in HD as part of an art installation 'As it presents itself - Somewhere vague'.  It was premiered at this year's Whitstable Biennale, Festival of Contemporary Visual Arts between the 21st June to the 6th July and will be coming to Bristol early next year.

Media Sandbox Showcase


  

WÖNKY was delighted to win the pitching session for our video sniffing-based idea at the Media Sandbox Showcase.  We'll be working with the Pervasive Media Studio to look at capturing CCTV footage and transforming it into Street Sport TV

Encounters International Short Film Festival - Contentertainment


Once again WÖNKY organised and chaired the 'Contentertainment' strand at the Encounters  International Short Film Festival.  Contertertainment looks at the use of short films across different digital platforms.  This year's theme was virtual worlds.  The guests included the VP Creative Director of Nickelodeon UK, an author of the 'Dummy's Guides to Machinima' plus a producer from Rivers Run Red.

Cornwall Film Festival - Animation Workshop


  

WÖNKY was at the Cornwall Film Festival to give the Cineformation Animation Workshop.  Miki produced 4 seconds of stop-motion animation in just 90 minutes using the 'Well -ard' dog from Aardman Animation's Creature Comforts series.
